AM/HF Equity Research Intern Interview
What's up monkeys,
I've got an interview coming up for a pretty well respected AM that offers some PWM and HF services as well. It's my first interview for a proper capital markets role, but I've done some interviews for other finance/business internships and I feel decently confident about my overall interview skills.
I've heard of some questions this shop tends to ask and was wondering how to answer when they ask "what are your views on the market right now?". If anyone in the industry can help and maybe provide an example of an educated sounding answer without coming off like I think I know everything, it'd be appreciated.
edit: its an equity research internship at said shop
The point of the question is to see if you're paying attention to things, not really to see if you're a macro-oriented person. So you'd say something along the lines of "the S&P has been in a broad downtrend the past month, being down about 4.5%, because of the US fears of a government shutdown due to the debt ceiling (which would generally hurt the economy), the tensions over the infrastructure bill not passing or passing at a much lower number (which would generally hurt the economy), and the Fed currently tapering its treasury bond purchases (which would generally hurt the economy)."
Are the above things right? Maybe, maybe not, but the point is you prove you're paying attention to markets.
