BB Equity research - Providing pay history before getting a contract

After ~10 interviews for an equity research role at a BB, the head of the team called me to let me know that there is no more interview and I will be getting the job, and now it's just waiting for their internal processes, etc.

Got a separate email from HR asking to fill out their form so they can "work on an offer proposal". In this form, they are basically asking for details of my pay history (base + bonus) for the past 3 years.

This is my first time moving to a bank from a big4 accounting firm (and obviously the pay is peanuts at a big4 with bonus pretty much non existent) - so just wanted to see if this is a normal process and if I'm supposed to provide all this information even before getting a contract?

Depends on the state that the job is in. I assume NY state, and I think they are not allowed to ask the question on compensation. Further, I believe that you are allowed to refuse to answer, but I am not a lawyer.

I have had interviewers tell me that they will request W-2 forms, before making an offer, but that has not happened to me personally. Again, depends on the state law.

I moved from B4 audit to BB ER and wasn’t asked about salary history, just what my expectations for pay would be.

As someone else said I think it’s prohibitted in New York but regardless of where you are associate pay is pretty standard base of 85-95, they won’t give you less than that regardless of your background.
