UCSB for finance?
I am attending UCSB for computer science(will change to financial math or business Econ). I was wondering whether it gets any recruiting from SF/LA/NYC banks for IB? It’s been going up in rankings recently (T30), so I was wondering if that had helped it. Thanks!
Non-target
Unfortunately, no. Even for west coast, the only UCs that get real traction are Berkeley and UCLA, with Berkeley being much higher. Besides that, it's Stanford (if kids didn't all major in comp sci and actually wanted IB), then USC which is about level with Berkeley if not a little behind, then CMC and Pomona but those are hard to compare since they're so small.
Horrible for finance. Stick with CS
I go to USC/Berkeley... internships in PE and ibanking, sadly I have not met one person in the industry from UCSB.. have seen a few from USD (not UCSD) and Santa Clara
You'll need personal connections/individual hustle. That's not to say you can't have a successful career coming out of UCSB, but the school itself doesn't give you a leg up. Should have a decent pipeline into the Big 4 or some insurance/long-only investment management shops, but not IB/MC etc.
