Entrepreneur --> PE/HF
Hi Wallstreetoasis,
I have recently started reading this site looking for advice, because I am very interested in PE. I graduated from an Elite LAC (Williams, Amherst....) a couple years back, and had an offer w/ BB IBD, but I decided to go an alternate route.... I had some money saved up in college from running a business, and decided to go into Real estate. I attended foreclosure auctions, and bought houses on the cheap. I did well, and turned a couple hundred thousand into a couple million, and now i am a bit of a slum lord. i initially got into this space b/c i love investing, i think value is fascinating, and this seemed like a great way to get into the game. I still love RE, but I am itching for something bigger. i want to keep investing for the rest of my life, but i want to branch out, and get some more experience. i think that the next step for me would be to go to either a value HF, or PE. I understand that I did not take the typical route, but would it be possible for me to land an associate role at a large HF/PE shop? I have some modeling knowledge, as I was an intern back in college, but obviously i dont have the 2 year analyst experience. Any advice or help you have for me would be great. Thanks
have you thought about REPE or something like that
yes, that is something that i would definitely consider.... but do you think i could land a gig at a big REPE place, Angelo Gordon for example, with my background?
No Idea, I'm just a prospective monkey. hahaha but I do know enough to say that REPE is what you're looking for, and that HF and PE do totally different things... ha. But good luck,
you sure post on here a lot for someone without work experience... haha. thanks though!
That's something of a theme on WSO.

If you know how to turn a couple hundred thousand into a couple million in a few years, I think you can punch your ticket to anywhere. (and if they don't hire you, THEY'RE the idiots)
