Finding internships late into recruiting
I'm currently a junior looking for internship opportunities in 2023. However, I didn't decide on investment banking until recently. After looking at the internships out there, it seems my chances for an internship are slim to none.
What should I be applying for that could translate over to investment banking in 2024?
I was thinking along the lines of fixed income, equity research, maybe some boutique banks... but I'm not sure and would gladly take any advice.
I can't speak much on the fields you mentioned. TAS is generally thought of as solid/relevant non-IB experience for breaking in. I applied for summer 2023 TAS internships (Big 4 and regional/local firms) throughout September and have received responses for interviews as recent as a week ago. While you're somewhat late to recruiting, I'd say landing a role is surely doable, especially if you're willing to relocate. Just my 2 cents.
Thank you! I am thinking about TAS as a backup plan if I'm not able to land any PE offers. Appreciate the reply!
My guess is there may be some smaller investment banks out there who may still have 2023 summer internship spots open. If helpful, Akin Bay Company in NYC comes to mind as an investment bank that may potentially still be open to hiring someone for a 2023 summer internship.
