Over the past few years, I’ve found myself using WSO less. Not because I think the quality has dipped - in fact, I feel the WSO is very thoughtful about how they want to grow over time. But it’s because I’ve made the move over to venture / growth equity in the past 3-5 years, and WSO is less relevant in this sector. Comparatively, there are a lot of adjacent / competing sources (VC / tech blogs, news subscriptions, tech/VC/Fintech podcasts, etc) that are more relevant and can command a fair bit of time.

In addition, as I’m currently in a principal-equivalent role, where I need most help from a guidance/advice standpoint is 1) how do I make partner, 2) how do I move to a different VC (lateral recruiting) + navigate negotiations, 3) how do I build relationships, and/or 4) how do I think about maybe joining a startup or my next phase of growth. I’m not really seeing that advice + exposure at WSO (given it’s more IB/PE focused, and naturally more geared towards advice for analysts/associates).

I think it would be great if WSO makes a separate VC/growth/startup section - and enable WSOers that belong in that community (or want to be part of it) to find each other. Right now, a lot of that gets lost in the PE bucket.

Also - is there a ways to bring more senior WSO members (people that have made principal/partner) to the platform? That will help provide value-add to your mid/Sr members, and encourage them to pay it forward as they grow. Finally, if you’re able to do this, I think it also allows members to potentially get to know each other beyond their WSO user name and get past the anonymity, enabling relationship building + stronger feelings / ties to the WSO community.

I'm really touched and felt I made a lot of progress after speaking to you. Your candid, straightforward no bullshit approach not only saved time, but put a lot of perspective on my answers. I really do look forward to speaking to you again before my big Superday! You have honestly been the best mentor I could have asked for, my friends and colleagues didn't do much to improve me like you did.

Since joining, I always found WSO to be an amazing, super-engaged community for all matters regarding the finance industry. From advice on how to break-in, to resources on financial concepts and modeling, as deep down as to help with specific Excel issues you encounter in your day-to-day work. Plus, there's always some hilariously funny comment to discover, making your day.

I just wanted to note that this mentor is the real deal. I immediately took notice of his intelligence and overall knowledge of the landscape. He knows this space very, very well.

On top of that, his process leading up to and through the meeting was incredibly efficient and allowed us to cover major ground in every hour booked. His guidance allowed me to self-study in between sessions to make material progress each time.

I would recommend this mentor to anybody looking to get a better understanding of the IB/PE environment, from the perspective of an outsider who hustled his way in. Well worth the price.

Good combination of content to get started on - Here and there some improvement potential to go deeper (e.g., commercial cases)

What impressed me the most was how WSO managed to find a mentor with a similar background and a plethora of innovative ideas.

I’ve been a user of WSO since I was a freshman in college to learn about front office roles. I used WSO to help guide my investment banking recruiting prep and networks to ultimately land a seat at a BB in IB. Then in my BB seat I used WSO to help inform my buy-side recruiting. Now, in my MF PE seat I still browse, but feel like there’s a little less for my to take from the platform, but it’s certainly been helpful while taking my first few professional steps.
