YOUR Personality Type? (Myers-Briggs/16 Personalities Edition)
What is you Myers-Briggs personality type? You can take the test here but answer with the truth, not what you WANT to be true.
Take the test at the 16 personalities site
or search human metrics myers-briggs
What was your result? Do you think it was accurate?
The rarest for men is INFJ and for women it is INTJ.
I stands for Introvert, E stands for Extrovert
N stands for iNtuition, S stands for Sensing
T stands for Thinking, F stands for Feeling
J stands for Judgment, P stands for perception
I am a female INTJ so I am introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging.
The types are broken into these categories:
Analysts (INTP- The Architect, INTJ- The MasterMind, ENTP- The Visionary , ENTJ- The Commander)
Diplomats (INFP- The Healer, INFJ- The Counselor, ENFP- The Champion, ENFJ- The Teacher)
Sentinels (ISTP- The Craftsman, ISTJ- The Inspector, ESTP- The Doer, ESTJ- The Supervisor)
Explorers (ISFP- The Composer, ISFJ- The Protector, ESFP- The Performer, ESFJ- The Provider)
16 Personalities test is a "renovated" spin off of the original Myers-Briggs so although all the symbol and types are the same some of the names differ depending on the site (ie. INTJ is the architect on 16 personalities but the mastermind in Myers Briggs, INTP is the architect on the Myers Briggs but the logician on 16 Personalities)
Let me know what you think! Does this have any validity? I personally think my results are spot on!
ENFJ here. The protagonist........ Definitely accurate for me and I think it explains my roles in the past pretty well. The relationships part is a little off for me though but it did match me with my spouses type
Me:
INTJ
Me and you are the same! Not too often you see one of those
I think we did
I know I'm late here...
I'm an ENFJ as well. Does your position involve a lot of analysis? Do/Did you find it difficult? I like learning about the markets and teaching alot, but I'm racking my brain to find the right direction.
Very cool those are pretty rare especially amongst men! I definitely see its validity too
intp master race
Love INTPs
Yee
INTJ. Scarily accurate when I took this years ago. It doesn't get everything right but gives you enough of the framework.
Same! Mine was too. I noticed weaknesses in some areas as well, but 95% accurate I would say.
intj
Same here!!
ISTP
I don't think it has any real validity since personality is just too complex to be classified in 16 types. However, I think it's fun to read about "myself" and it's a good subject to talk about on a date.
I see the validity, but I do see where that argument can be made. There is one test called WAVE which asks emotional questions -which to me have nothing to do with personality. I see emotions as separate from who we are. It is more the way that we react to our emotions.
I took this test a few months ago and got INFJ.
I find the test pretty accurate. Unlike many tests, it was very specific and did not paint a broad brush that could describe most people.
I do remember my Introvert/ Extrovert score was right on the border. I would consider myself an outgoing introvert.
INTP but myers briggs is bullshit
Do you think your results are totally wrong then? I think it is "wrong" in the sense that people have to analyze themselves and many people don't know themselves.
myers briggs is kinda like the smart people's astrology. it just tells u a bunch of shit and ur like "oh ya thats me"
theres no actual hard science behind it and any study u can point to pretty much says its bullshit
Another ENFJ here or the protagonist. I definitely see how its accurate though my introvert and extrovert were almost 50/50. I could b an INFJ too
I am pretty close on the judgement and perception side myself. I definitely think INTJ applies more than INTP though
ENTP - The Debater - or the Analyst who doesn't like doing the actual analyst work.
Lol.. A lot of my friends are debaters and say the same thing!
.
Don’t really see that as a fair analysis. INTJs are actually more emotionally in tune than INTP but are very guarded. I would argue that maybe at that age you didn’t really know yourself or you answered questions with bias. The premise of the test is that answers are supposed to remain the same over years
I wouldn't necessarily agree with the notion that you don't change personalities. I think that you maintain a core group of principles, but real life hits you like a sack of bricks after growing up and graduating. I know I was a lot more insufferably "smart" when I was younger, and i'm much friendlier and laid back in comparison.
Life experience has a significant impact on how you treat people and act. In addition, you're always going to be biased in submission on how you'd like to be perceived rather than others perceptions of you. It would be really interesting to see a reverse Myers-Briggs test, using your 5 closest friends and closest family members.
i took this 6 years ago and got ENFP, still an ENFP today. always been amused at their career suggestions though, could never see myself becoming a therapist or detective or reporter
INTP
same
deleted
Actually its a positive trait. T stands for turbulent and means emotional unrest.
INTJ. I consider myself an "extroverted introvert"
ESTP-A. Not quite sure what it means, but wouldn´t put too much weight on an online test based on self-reported questions.
INFJ here, very spot on in regards to how I tend to fall into the counselor/teacher/explainer/educator/peacemaker/therapist role in work, life, love and pretty much all facets of my world.
I got ESTP and then closed the tab. Idk what ESTP really means about me. Cool little test tho and was fun to take, thanks for recommending.
Yeah similar to my reaction, I got ENFP though aka "The Campaigner". It got some core parts of me correct but at the end of the day, everyone is an individual and it's those little pieces that are a real difference from the buckets Meyers-Briggs offers.
You should definitely should look into the results if you have time! It is a really great personality strength and weakness analysis.
INFP - Assertive with slight preference to inro over extro
2 years later: INTP - Turbulent, interesting how things change eh. Or maybe I became more jaded lol.
INTP. Interesting tidbit that INTP is rare and makes up only 3% of the population...Does finance attract a disproportionately high number of this personality? Seems like there are way more INTP's here than 3%. Probably just a shoddy sample size.
INTJ is even more rare and yet INTJ and INTP are showing up all over here. Maybe finance attracts these personality types? They are known as the "analysts" so makes sense actually! haha
I am analytical to a fault.
Not so much finance as internet message boards about finance.
ENTP
Went back and took the test again to see if I had changed from INTJ in the last couple of years. Turns out I'm even moreso in that category so it does a good job explaining me. Breakdown:
Introverted: 81% Intuitive: 81% Thinking: 75% Judging: 79% Assertive: 89%
I'm not even close to any other category. Not sure whether that's a good or bad thing..
Not a bad thing just a personality! Me and you have similar stats although my introversion is a little less. Every type has strengths and weaknesses.
Yeah I know that in my personal life I'm much more introverted so I actively become the opposite when in a corporate/networking setting. It'd be exhausting to be extroverted like that all the time though.
I'm a Taurus and a rockstar.
Honestly surprised by the number of introverts on this forum given that commonly finance guys are extroverts.
ENTJ here
Like I said in a reply above, I think it's more that introverts who excel in a corporate setting can "turn it on" when they want to. That's how I am at least. I'm extremely introverted to the point I don't like being around people most of the time but you would have NO idea if you just judged me based on my networking and talks with higher level directors and such.
You're also pretty early on in your career. When your weekend/evenings become networks where you just have to be on naturally, that is when extroverted personalities really thrive. If you just turn it on in meetings/when you see people, you'll never have that extra connection in your network to get something done.
Work never stops at the highest level...it's like saying doing something you enjoy and you'll never work a day in your life. Hanging out at the country club or around people and that ends up being your relaxation technique, and then have that lead to new business/connections is what I really mean. It is something that takes time to see play out and it is hard to see from the junior level. I would bet your MDs are mostly extroverted (even if they are awkward).
Edit: this is also one of the most poorly written things I think I have ever created, but I dont care.
I am mostly an extrovert when it comes to deal-sourcing and sales, but out of work I barely talk to anyone but close friends. Definitely have a "cat" type personality more than a dog.
Depends very much so on what part of finance you're in. For a banker / trader / sales, I'd bet he/she was an extrovert. For an equity researcher / quant, my money is that he/she's an introvert.
I work at an asset manager, and we were profiled by a consultant based on a series of tests of whether we were introverted or extroverted (among other things). Turned out that 80-85% of us were introverted. If you did this same thing at Citi's trading division, I wouldn't be shocked if it was the other way around.
I think your forgetting that this is an online forum, so it's more likely that an introvert is using this forum more than an extrovert.
It is plainly obvious that this is an online forum.
Your assertion is complete nonsense; do extroverts need to find out information about an industry in person only? What if geography or financial resources limit an extrovert's ability to access that information? Do you know what a form actually is...like the Greek forum, where people would congregate in person to discuss and share ideas? Is there a public forum that extroverts should find called WSOlive?
The purpose of my comment was based on actual experience in the industry, one that I would say generally favors extroverts.
ESFJ ... haven't seen anyone post this one yet.
Interesting though .. Although my extroversion was high .. the other 3 were like 60/40
Did you think the profile was accurate? Maybe you can fall over into another category if not.
Kinda sorta .. there were things that I thought were uncanny .. like organizing events, hosting people, bringing people together .. Hard-working and Loyal .. that is spot on.
But then it mentioned that my type was "deeply affected by any sort of criticisim" ... that's not me at all.
ENTJ ftw
A very ENTJ comment to match. your type is actually known for the highest salary from studies. More power to you!!!!!!!!
This is such a simplistic way of looking at MBTI that completely ignores the functions and leads to people miss categorizing themselves.
Are you referring to my analysis or the 16 personalities spin-off? Because I purposely referenced viewers to the site so they could take it and do research themselves.
I didn’t want to go "too" in depth and create an overly long post. I know there’s definitely more to elaborate upon. I’ve done more research then I probably should’ve haha
So with MBTI people think you can just look at which letter you are and pair them up (and there are a bunch of quizzes that will do that). But if you actually go into the theory it’s more complicated (as I’m sure you know) and I would have picked a different quiz that doesn’t just do that letters and give %s but does it based on the functions.
INTP...
I got ISFJ which is 100% me, its comical to read the description because its scary how accurate it is. Another thing I thought was interesting is that I am also a Virgo and there seemed to be many similarities between the two. I'm curious did anyone else get ISFJ??
Someone else mentioned their astrological sign as well! haha I don't think I have seen anyone else with that type yet though.
Intj
took it years ago and got strong ESTJ
INFP. I used to always get INTJ or ENTJ, but I think getting older made me more open-minded and empathetic.
Dumb story time. A person reached out to me for advice on getting into commodity trading, when explained how to proceed he replied:
''I can't, I'm INTP'' (or whatever that was, I don't remember)
Me: ''So? Even if this isn't your strength, it's still what you have to do. This is how I did it and I'm not extroverted either.''
The guy: ''No, INTP means (proceeds with the explanation), this is not the way my personality acts, I can't do that''.
Me: ''Mate, you can't let a 4 letter abbreviation define your entire existence, there's a certain accuracy in those tests, but that doesn't mean your personality can never change.''
Visibly upset guy then spends another 5 minutes explaining Jung, before storming off. As far as I know, he never got in. The interesting part of this story is that peope desperately need some sort of identity and belonging. The sad part is that they latch up to anything to satisfy that need, even counterproductive and outright negative ones.
INTP-A
apparently one of the rarest ?! only 5% of the US population are INTP-A apparently
INTJ-A
Introverted - 52%
Intuitive - 52%
Thinking - 90%
Judging - 65%
Assertive - 68%
ESTJ
Me:
ENTP
Extravert(56%) iNtuitive(44%) Thinking(69%) Perceiving(41%)
INFJ
Intj but I was on the edge with e.
MBTI is a crock of shit. People basically answer based on how they perceive themselves or aspire to be, not necessarily how they are in reality
Off the top of my head, I know 4 people who claim they are ENTJs. 1 is a successful, highly disciplined, Type A marathon running gunner. 2 are overweight, lazy, passive aggressive, self-aggrandizing fucks who don’t realize that they suck. The last falls somewhere in between.
Take any self reported questionnaire with a grain of salt because most people are completely lacking in self awareness and won’t answer accurately
