Sushi is Paradise
In a world of culinary delight, sushi's a treasure to hold,
A masterpiece of flavor, a story yet untold.
With reverence we approach it, like art in a museum,
Sushi, a tiny masterpiece, a gastronomic dream.
A canvas of rice, serene and pure, blanketed by the sea,
Sliced fish, fresh and vibrant, as far as eyes can see.
Wasabi's gentle fire, soy sauce's sweet embrace,
In the realm of sushi, every bite is a tender grace.
From the depths of ocean's heart, the fishermen's noble quest,
To present it on the platter, to be savored and be blessed.
A dance of knife and skill, precision is the key,
To carve the fish so lovingly, with perfect symmetry.
Glistening like jewels, the roe on sushi's crown,
A burst of ocean essence, in each bite, it's found.
Nori wraps the secret, like an embrace so warm,
Sushi's a tale of love, in every delicate form.
Maki rolls, a tapestry, with colors bright and bold,
Fusing flavors, textures, in each hand-rolled fold.
Sushi's a poetry, sung by skilled hands and hearts,
A symphony of flavors, where culinary art starts.
In Tokyo's sacred alleys, or by the ocean's shore,
Sushi is paradise, an experience to adore.
It's a taste of perfection, a glimpse of heaven's grace,
In every delicate piece, in each sushi's embrace.
So let us raise our chopsticks, in a toast to this cuisine,
For sushi is a paradise, where flavors intervene.
In the world of gastronomy, it stands supreme,
A taste of pure bliss, a culinary dream.

I used to love when I saw an “X is paradise” post. Usually meant hilarious satire. “FT Partners is Paradise” is probably one of the funniest posts on this site.

Spent a few weeks in Japan this summer. Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka. I cannot even start to describe the level of quality, freshness and taste of the entire experience.
Worth a long weekend round trip visit just to eat sushi in Tokyo if you do not have the time for a full trip IMO.
Have been back for two months and already thinking about my next trip, although there are other places I need to visit first.
Curious, assuming you're in NYC or a big city equivalent somewhere (not too relevant necessarily but can be), how is the delta in quality to say an omekase in tokyo vs something like sushi noz or nakazawa? I'd imagine it's quite tangible but so curious to understand what exactly it is that makes it so much better as I absolutely adore the art that is sushi. Having traveled all over the world, Japan is the one place I still haven't made it to for a material amount of time and am dying to go.
The difference in quality isn’t that large to be honest. Top tier sushi places in NYC for sure get their fish flown in daily from Japan so if you compare top of the line omakase in NYC vs in Japan the taste won't be too different. One thing to note is that top-tier omakase places in Japan are really hard to get into since they require reservations months in advance with no websites/english translation, so you might have to use a concierge or ask someone who speaks japanese to make one for you. The prices for these places are also very expensive (on par with NYC).
If you don't care too much for going to the absolute best omakase places in Japan then this is where the price difference with NYC becomes absolutely staggering - I was also in Tokyo for a couple of weeks this summer and could get a ~20 course omakase for about $50-60 USD. Now this wasn't like a 5 star rating place but since the fish is all local I don't think it matters all too much in quality besides the dining experience. In NYC an omakase with that many courses would run you $150-200 minimum (last I checked...haven't been in a while so someone confirm). There's just so many cheap sushi places all over Japan that are such high quality...really incredible.
Definitely try to make a trip out there. Absolutely life changing food (quality + prices). Also use tabelog to check ratings of any restaurants you want to go to.
