Lazard v. Deutsche

I have an offer at both Lazard and Deutsche for SA. Which one should I take?
Heard Lazard is brutal with hours and Deutsche is way more reasonable... but better exit ops and reputation at Lazard.

Also am on hold at JPM and GS-- should I wait those out?

Lazard over Deutsche Their prestige will give you top excellent exit ops. Also from what I heard the reason there are long hours is there is alot of work. Lazard hands down. Also I would let both JP and GS know your status.

Lazard vs. Deutsche = Lazard hands down as the others have pointed out.

Regarding whether or not you should wait out JPM or GS, it really depends on whether you are settled with Lazard / Deutsche. If you are 100% sure you are takingLAZ / DB, don't even bother calling the other places, as it will look bad on you if GS/JPM extends you an offer and you turn it down later.

If you are not 100% sure about taking LAZ / DB, call the place that you want more (JPM / GS, but not both) for the reason stated above.

Call JPM and GS and tell them about your offers. Let them know you have to decide soon.

If you get all the offers, you my friend have a nice problem on your hands. There will be many factors to consider but in general I would go:

1: GS / JPM 1.05: LAZ 2: DB

Very close call between GS, JPM, and LAZ. DB is a great opportunity but in terms of prestige and exit opps, it's a tier below the others.

Wall Street leaders now understand that they made a mistake, one born of their innocent and trusting nature. They trusted ordinary Americans to behave more responsibly than they themselves ever would, and these ordinary Americans betrayed their trust.

Why is everybody so keen on LAZ in the US? In Europe its really nothing...it is may be slightly better compared to HSBC/RBS but definitely much lower compared to DB

Lazard is also very strong in France and very brutal (Lazard TMT group is branded as a killing place to be, like 4am everyday for real) but the dealflow, pay, prestige etc is top notch. The only direct competitor I can come up with is Rothschild which is also very very strong. Top French students who want to stay in France would definitely go to one of these two, before thinking to go DB / CS / JPM etc or even GS / MS. In the UK, it's quite different I think since the BB are well settled.

Uhm, I'm from Europe and I'd know several people who'd prefer Lazard to DB. Me included.

Don't know where you work/whether you're even in the industry. LAZ > DB anywhere in the US/Europe on a pure prestige/deal-flow/exit-opps basis. Also, while LAZ is historically stronger in the US, it's ranked 6 in M&A league tables in Europe right now (and let's not forget DB/other bulge brackets get the benefit of "advisory credit" despite only financing the transaction).

Because Lazard's dealflow and prestige in the US is unparalleled among boutiques. Many kids turn down uber-tier BB offers for Lazard.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

Go to uni in London. One of my friend's classmates at another school is joining Lazard in London had an offer from MS IBD in London as well. Always interesting to know what people with actual offers decide and what people hypothetically say they would do. Not saying one is better than the other, but an actual data point.
