JP Morgan Financial Sponsors Group
hi WSO,
Anyone knows the intricacies of the FS group at JP Morgan in London? Do they execute the deals or industry coverage does all the quantitative work?

There is not a junior FSG team in London for JPM. Just coverage bankers that work with the industry teams.
As of last summer, they only had one Associate in the New York office since all the Analysts would leave. Things might have changed this year.
Too bad. I hoped it has similar FS execution group like MS
JPM Financial Sponsors;strong technical experience? (Originally Posted: 04/06/2011)
Anyone with actual insight on JPM FSG? (as in, not just parroting what you've previously read, since there isn't much reliable, recent information regarding JPM FSG on here anyway--I went through quite a few pages with the search tool)
Does it offer a strong technical experience? One of the analysts I spoke with claimed they did most of the LBO/debt modelling in the group, but of course everyone talks up his/her own team.
Thanks.
Why don't you ask people at JPM that aren't in FSG?
(Such as SLF)
Or Industrials / TMT M&A or M&A execution... SLF and Sponsors are shit at JPM... just support for M&A

For the NYC office: Does anyone have any info on the group's culture and the work that the analysts do? I believe this is the industry group that's separate from the LevFin group.
Friend worked there. Said that it was an easy going environment with nice people that were sociable. They also do a lot of the modeling that lev fin doesn't do, including LBOs, etc. Very good group overall if you want to end up in PE.
I have seen this at other shops as well where Sponsor's really carries the LevFin workload. However, if you have a very strong LevFin group (BAML comes to mind) then it may be less of the case.
7x EBITDA is correct. All LBO modeling is done through Fin Spon and the debt side of it is thru Lev Fin. If you want PE, Fin Spon is the group
For PE JPM has three top groups in the NY office M & A, FS, Lev Fin. We recruit almost all our pre MBA associates from there.
Do you work at a MF or MM PE?
Sorry to hijack the thread, but are Financial Sponsors groups at BB's (in general, not JPM specifically) good pathways to hedge funds also?

Anyone got a feel for their reputation relative to: 1) other groups at JPM 2) other financial sponsors groups on the street
Thanks guys.
I have heard good things about both their hours and exit ops.
im interested as well
I know an ex-financial sponsors IBD analyst at JPM. They have extremely good exit opportunities to PE firms. Financial sponsors varies from firm to firm, where at some banks, the deal execution is done by other product groups and not financial sponsors.
Sounds about right
Most Sponsors groups have very good exit opps due to the MDs' relationships with PE funds and the deal experience the analysts get. I wasn't under the impression that JP Sponsors did the deal execution, but placement there seems to be pretty good. Basically all the Sponsors groups besides GS/Barc have decent to great placement.
Sponsors at JPM doesn't have any Associates, so the analysts there get great exposure. The MDs there also go to bat heavily during recruiting season. One of the three strongest groups at the bank along with M&A and LevFin.
Thanks a ton guys - really appreciate the insights
True that.

Trying to figure out group preferences prior to sell day. Read other threads, but trying to figure out if anyone has recent insight on culture and placement. What are some of the specific shops that analysts from the past couple of classes have gone to? Any chance of a megafund position, or is MM PE generally the exit?
nobody? @"APAE"
Are you full-time or SA?
Neither yet. Trying to figure out groups for SA.

LevFin is strong but how about sponsors?
Very strong; top placement into mega funds (analysts from last year have gone to Carlyle, THL, Cerberus, and others).
One to oaktree out in Cali too
Lev Fin is strong but good luck getting into PE from that group. No modeling, only capital markets.
Sponsors is good and they place extremely well.
is work in sponsors almost exclusively LBO? I'd imagine you work with a decent amount of M&A and IPOs as well
90% LBO/recaps, 10% other.
Sponsors doesn't see much M&A, given any portfolio add-on acquisitions are sognificantly smaller in most cases.

How good is this group? Hours, culture? Do they model a lot? I heard a bunch of mixed things...
