How many SA spots in London's top 20 banks?
Hello everyone,
I'm an incoming Masters student at a top target in the UK, exploring my chances of securing a Summer Analyst position next year within the Investment Banking division of the top 20 banks in London.
From my understanding, the biggest banks (GS, MS, JPM, BofA, Citi) take around 60-70 interns while EBs take more like 15-20 interns.
Based on these figures, I estimate that the average Summer Analyst class size could be around 30 interns, summing up to a total of approximately 600 positions across these institutions. That would probably mean only 200-300 spots for straight white males like me.
Am I right in this calculation?
You forgot that around 15-20% of the SA spots are filled by spring interns on average. I think Lazard is 100% but correct me if I am wrong.
Gender is a criteria among others. BBs also look at the uni, language, or skin colour. They want to have a balanced mix.
GS/JP - 60-80
MS - 50 ish
Citi - 50-60
BofA - 40 ish
UBS/DB - 30-40
Barclays - 50-60 ish
Roths - 40-50 (lower this year + most are spring converts)
Laz - 25-30 (all spring converts)
PJT/EVR - 25-30
Moelis - 10-15
Jefferies - 20-30
HL - 15-25
CVP - 4-5
PWP - 15-20
HSBC - 30ish
Greenhill - 10 ish
RBC - 30ish
Macquaire - not sure
RJ - 10
BNP - not sure
Nomura - 30ish
Gleacher - 5-6
DC Advisory - 11
A lot of these are ballpark so may be wrong but most should be in the correct ballpark to give a better idea. In total probably 1000 reputable BB/EB/MM IBD SA spots in London.
Thanks for the insights!
Do you have an idea of the rough number of applicants in London? (10k? 20k? 50k?)
It increased a lot this year but probably average 3-4k per bank. Pointless thinking about your statistical odds. If you have a good background you'll do better than you think as a lot of applicants are poor quality/not serious. Also haven't included SA numbers for other FO divisions
There was a good report from the Bristol tracker about these kind of stats
london intern #
How is HSBC on here but over William Blair and Santander lol
Because this is a list of London SA spots and HSBC has a significant amount whilst William Blair doesn't run a SA programme?
Forgot about santander but not sure how many spots they have. Either way HSBC is still a solid place in London and santander and WB aren't obviously better than them like you imply. Majority of people are taking HSBC over santander.
not 1000, closer to 400
According to what? Seems way too low
,,,,
Does anyone have any idea how many spring interns each of these places take within their SA class
Nomura/RBC is 30ish
Will update
wrong, RBC is around 25
What do you think 30ish means
.
Anyone have the #s for MBA Summer Associate Internships?
Lazard and Jefferies both were 24. You could update and include conversion % too, might be useful?
Yeah true although it changes a lot every year. I heard Jefferies was 30 in the summer just gone although could be wrong.
PJT was 30.
Know for a fact it was 28 last year.
Actually tbf its 30 if you include park hill
Yeah exactly, it was 28, then 2 for Park hill.
you are a master student - so apply for off-cycle
Citi was 48 in London and a 53 or something in EMEA
was just wondering what the equivalent of this would be for consulting? (average intern numbers per firm)
