GS Financing VS. CS VS. BAML
If you are given summer offers from GS Financing, CS corporate finance, BAML all in HK IBD, how would you choose? Thoughts very much appreciated!

Career Resources
Most people on this board would pick GS janitorial services over other firms.
A GS doorman/security
Gs financing or baml. Financing just refers to ECM/dcm
Would you elaborate a bit why? Heard the conversion rate was very low in the financing group last year. (2/6 approximately).
CS
GS Financing is not great. I think CS or BAML would be better choices... personally speaking, depending on the group in Financing, I might consider GS...
Which one slightly is better CS, or BAML, generally speaking?
Do you have offers? If not STFU.
I do, and I would appreciate your opinion as to which one would be the best option.
congrats first
i'd say GS financing/ECM is the best in Asia
CS>BAML just in general impression
really boils down to what you really wanna do.
these are all outstanding offers. wherever you end, it will be a great start
"CS Corporate Finance" as in IBD Corp Finance and you would be doing modeling and work on M&A deals, IPOs, etc... like you'd do in an M&A or industry banking group in the US office at CS?
If the GS group is a capital markets group (ECM/DCM), you might be doing something very different...more market driven. Is that what you want to do?
I'd imagine CS is better than BAML internationally (and in general), but I'm not too familiar with HK.
CS Corporate Finance is essentially now a middle-office team. They are the support group for the front-office teams. For example, if they need to find out information about capital structure etc., the work is given to corp fin. In Asia, you want to be in a coverage group (e.g. natural resources, TMT). CS is rapidly expanding its CorpFin team - but consequently, its a TON of processing work without seeing much clients at all.
BAML is an okay player right now, nothing to scream home about. GS Financing is technically under the IBD arm as well. They just handle the ECM/DCM/LevFin stuff - the group is more American (i.e. caucasian). GS has a lot of ECM activity in Asia (i.e IPO's make most of the revenue), so I don't think it's as much of a downside compared to starting in ECM in the United States.
There will be another round of recruiting during the summer in any case. My suggestion, go with Goldman, keep in touch with the other banks, and during summer recruiting, interview, get more offers, and you have the luxury of choosing.
Oh yeah, CS CorpFin slaughtered their interns last year in terms of return-offer rates.
