Future in IB?
Hi everyone,
Just joined this site. I'm a student at Cornell. and have an unusual major for a career in finance...atmospheric science. I originally wanted to be a broadcast meteorologist but now that the tv markets gone to sh#t I am looking more towards business. I am minoring in finance and have had a 2 -summer management/accounting internship and just started what will be a 2 year commodities analyst internship (part-time). I have actually come to find that meteorology relates a lot to business, especially in soft commodities since production is directly influenced by climate. The only trouble is that I had to take physics for my major and could not understand it at all. With a C+ and a C-, it brought my GPA down to a 2.9. Now, I transferred, so my freshman GPA was a 3.62 (some say they can be combined), but honestly, I'd rather just use my Cornell GPA and be honest. I know I can get it up to a 3.1/3.2 by this fall, which will be my junior year. With a strong recruiter connection at a BB ,could this get me an interview in their commodities division? My lowest business-related course grade is a B+... so without physics I would have around a 3.4. I know once I got the interview I would rock it, so the trouble is convincing HR that I'm not dumb or lazy
Correction: Not raise it to a 3.1 "by" fall, but after fall semester
Be the next Tom Skilling. Just make sure your brother keeps his head straight.
If you are interested in commodities, and if you haven't done so, sign up for Crop Progress reports and other USDA emails. Also try to get your hands on The Gartman Letter or something similar.
Libor- I already receive all of those updates from USDA. My boss produces reports and sells them to BB. Fascinating stuff. Haven't seen the Gartman Letter yet, I'll look into that...
I guess you are ahead of the game...
Gartman covers lots of markets but he does focus on Ag every day and he'll put in a weather chart like once a month
