Duke Student Looking to IB -- is non-STEM/Econ major fine?

Hi, I am an incoming freshman at Duke and am very interested in investment banking. I know Duke is a target and major doesn't matter at targets, but most Dukies who want to enter IB still do Econ with a Finance concentration.

I find the math in Duke's Econ prerequisites rly time-consuming and irrelevant to IB. I could still maximize the many finance extracurriculars at Duke without doing Econ.

1) Has anyone met any Duke alums who majored in Public Policy/Political Science/History/English and made it into BBs/EBs? Thanks alot.

2) Is there anyth to take note of for recruiting if I do major in the Humanities?

I went to a similar level target (Mich/UCB) and peers who didn’t study econ had a tougher time landing interviews. I think if you want to maximize your chances and have the most optionality when it comes to choosing a spot, Econ is the way to go. I remember when I was applying Econ / finance / math was even a prereq on some of the internship applications.

Both Mich & UCB have business schools, obviously majoring in a non-business/econ degree would raise eyebrows. Duke doesn’t have a finance or business degree — much easier to break in with any major similar to any liberal arts target school.

Mich/UCB are not on Duke’s level, and most top 10 UG don’t have business schools so what are you even talking about
