Bunch of Questions relating to Recruiting from a Noob

  1. What's the role of HR? Are they the ones to analyze resumes first, or does it go straight to bankers?

  2. Will commercial/private banking internships help in landing a summer internship at a BB?

  3. I was going through Penn's career survey reports a couple months ago and saw that a ton ended up either in BO or PWM. How common is that for top schools? [sorry if this is really noobish, but i'm genuinely curious. don't have any experience regarding this.]

  4. PWM internships - are they good enough to land an SA gig at a BB?

You aren't getting responses because these questions have been asked hundreds of times. I hate to be that guy but...use the search function.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

I'll bite:

  1. Usually depends, a lot of times HR screens resumes and bankers take it from there. A reccomendation from a banker usually puts your resume in a separate pile though

  2. If you can get it in sophomore or freshman year than yes, at least from what I have seen. Getting a commercial banking job as a junior and converting it to an FT in IBD will be a bit tougher, but far from impossible

  3. I notice you aren't in university yet, and as someone who fell into this trap in freshman year, the most important lesson you can learn is that going to a great school doesn't mean you are gaurenteed a job, or even an interview. Plenty of people slack off, realize maybe IBD isn't for them, and decide to do other things. Its not a big deal, and it doesn't affect your chances unless you let it, hustle from day 1.

  4. I think thats the path most taken to get an SA at a BB, but certainly not the only way.

@thatsracist: Thanks man. That was very helpful, and I appreciate you taking the time out to guide me. I'm definitely not expecting the job search to be easy, and therefore I'm looking into several careers/majors, and hopefully I'll have a good sense of direction by the end of next year. Thanks again!

@analystforhire: What's the point of your post, man? If you don't want to help, why post AT ALL? Seriously, can't a guy even ask a question about recruiting without people jumping all over him for doing so?
