Lost Hopeless Confused

I am in a real dillema, I have done an undergraduate in Economics from a lowly ranked liberal arts college and thereafter pursued a degree in development studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, I worked in managerial research at think tanks and was thinking of doing a PHD in management studies. In between covid hit and i retracked my steps and decided I wanted a career in finance or a corporation rather than academia. I then did a masters in management and finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science. I am applying for financial roles at 29, and feel totally lost. I feel I am to old to enter banking as most of the recruitment happens at 23-24. I am really feeling stuck and would acknowledge any form of help. or career guidance.

You seem diffused and confused.

1. Set a goal (What, when, where) - Finance? Academia? Decide analytically and bulletproof (otherwise in 2yrs you will be in the same situation as today)
2. Create a roadmap. How will you get to that goal? Plan via a base case (step 1: network woth professionals at firm a,b,c.; step 2: learn technicals… etc.) and a downside case (e.g. alternative jobs closely related to Finance)
3. Start executing. No shortcuts. Asap.
4. Stick to the plan with your goal in mind - presistance and grit are key to get out of your situation
5. After 2 years, reaccess and adapt if needed. Stability will be key. Do something for 2 years and you can start to look left and right.
