West Coast WM

How will taking a summer analyst position in wealth management at a California office (SF/LA) instead of NYC affect future career prospects in finance, esp. if I am considering continuing a career in WM?

not at all. if you want to continue in WM, some of the teams in SF would be equally as good if not better than NYC teams

what matters less is location, the important things are your firm, size of team, type of clients, and the nature of your work.

for example, if I had the opportunity to work with a dude in NYC who owns his own shop with $300mm but all he did was trade stocks, that'd be worthless. a team in charlotte at BAML that operates like a multi family office with similar AUM, I'm taking BAML all day long
