Why don’t more EBs have research divisions.
Afaik Evercore and Gug are the only “EBs” that have research. Is there a reason for this or is banking really the core product of the firms that fit the EB category?
EVR acquired ISI, there are tons of boutique and MM research firms that would make a good acquisition.

ER is a cost center. No point for an EB to build one
Going off this, a fleshed out ER team only makes sense if you derive a lot of revenue from equity offerings where a selling point for a company is for your bank to pick up coverage. Most EBs don’t have that capability.
