Career Resources
Too Big to Fail, Barbarians at the Gate, Wall Street
Pretty Woman
Margin call
Took the words out of my mouth. I absolutely love how the emphasis in this film is on dialogue & not music.
Well said. Also thought Big Short was great for people who didn't understand financial terms that well (me when I first watched it).
Would rate Margin Call #1 but to me, Big Short was a close #2. Margin Call made me think about a few bankers I know who lost their jobs. Some who joined other banks later on (but eventually left Finance within 10-15 years after in their middle age for chiller lifestyles) and others who left Wall Street for good after the crash (interestingly enough, a handful of the middle/back office people I know who got fired went on to become medical doctors for the career stability).
Demon Slayer Mugen Train, Your Name, A Silent Voice
The Inside Job is a pretty good documentary
The other guys and surf's up
The Other Guys is one of the funniest comedies from the early 2010s
Great movie, somehow every single scene is funny.
Surf's up however got me confused
Margin Call and The Big Short are my favorites
Totally. Margin call was super visceral and the most realistic in terms of how it represented folks in the industry (and still a theatrical stretch). The Big Short was just a really well done movie that you don't even need to be in finance for to enjoy.
Betting on Zero
Too Big to Fail
Margin Call, the Big Short, and the TBTF HBO movie are my favorites in no particular order. Though only the Big Short is watchable with non-finance people.
I'm just waiting for that Wolf of Wall Street comment
Despicable Me 2
Cars
^
Die Hard
Ratatouille
Space Jam 2 and Penguins of Madagascar. I try to watch them at least once every week for more motivation
I think Finding Nemo is about a guy trying to find undervalued securities and something about networking with sharks and turtles to get to Sydney Australia.
Margin Call is so good - especially having experienced the crisis up close
God damn, not a single post with Boiler Room?!
A who's who cast of actors that make you say "hey, it's that guy from that thing"?!
Vin Diesel, Ben Affleck, Tweeter, the AV-virgin from Scream 1 and 2, and that guy who's Nic Cage's side kick in National Treasure (also the bachelor in Hangover 1)?!
I'm going to let the lack of Trading Places slide. Came out before I was born so it's for oldheads.
Yeah, Boiler Room was good stuff...

Half of these don’t even relate to / reference finance. The topic was “finance movies”…🤷🏻♂️
I respectfully disagree. I think every Junior banker (myself included) should watch the Devil Wears Prada, especially the scene where Nigel (Stan Tucci) talks to Andy (Anne Hathaway) about the job "every girl wanted": "Wake up 6".
Silence of the Lambs and American Pyscho
Not technically Wall Street but surprised no one has said Trading Places
One of my all-time favorite movies. LOOKIN GOOD, BILLY RAY!
Trading Places
Enron: The smartest guys in the room.
It's a Wonderful Life. No seriously, it's about why securitization of residential mortgages provides liquidity to banks and is a net benefit to society.
Based take and all time Christmas movie
The Big short
Not a movie, but Industry is a relatively accurate show for IB/S&T tho more focus on the S&T side as the show progresses. Especially since the show came out recently and is planning to release season 2 (this summer I think??), it's not another movie about GFC.
So true - can't tell you how many times I've been jacked off onto the mirror of my office bathroom.
have you ever fainted on the office toilet as well?
(In no order)
The industry was a fine short series, but not too much financial jargon, but it gives a few insights in work pressure just getting a graduate job in an investment bank is too much. Also I guess saving capitalism and also Explained money is also good stuff
Equity is good as well. Starring Anna Gunn from breaking bad
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Inside Job with Matt damon.
Fair Play (2023)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt16304446/
An unexpected promotion at a cutthroat hedge fund pushes a young couple's relationship to the brink, threatening to unravel far more than their recent engagement.
Equity (2016 movie about ECM). Dirty Money episode on HSBC (NFLX Season 1)
3 beers deep and I’d say Wolf of Wall Street. Let’s be real
Grown Ups 2
