Where to find high-quality research reports that focus on industries?
Hi all, where to find high-quality research reports that focus on industries rather than specific companies?

S&P Cap IQ
Not sure if there is a centralized service but McKinsey has loads of industry coverage in their reports.

Any advice on where to get good industry-level reports (e.g. current state and dynamics, key trends, key players, etc) to prepare for the interviews. Am interested in both paid and public sources. Thank you very much.
Many sell-side research reports get uploaded on scribd.com
Are there any web-sites other than scribd.com that provide sell-side reports? Thank you!
UBS has published a few very comprehensive industry reports. Very good, IMO.
Seconded
Any specific industry you're looking for?
Not sure. I'll look around my home desktop, might have a few saved there. PM me later on and I'll see if I can send them your way -- not 100% sure I still have them though.
Anyone ever read Fidelity's industry reports? I read a couple (have lost site access since) and really liked it. Thought it was perfect, actually. Very thorough, great for interviews.
I don't understand, are you expecting to read an industry report the night before the interview and try to convince the analyst that you know the industry inside out? rather than doing that, I would focus on the SKILLS you bring to the table.
As you are asking for industry reports I am assuming you are either fresh from school or a career switcher. If you got the interview, the analyst ALREADY knows that you have no clue about the industry and wants to interview you for something else (maybe your skills...just saying or education).
Instead of asking you about the industry, most likely he will ask you about the industry of the company you are CURRENTLY working in or if you are fresh from school he will ask you for a stock you like and then its industry. He wants to test how you see things.
If you still want industry reports, PM me the industry and I can send you some.

Where to find good US Industry Reports (Originally Posted: 04/16/2015)
Hello everybody!
I am working in a small investment fund outside of the US, and I need to come up with several reports which give a very good ground-up overview of all US industries like Oil&Gas, Telecom, Internet etc. So that a person who has a lot of IB experience, but zero understanding of a particular market could quickly grasp its main features and start building highly detailed financial models.
Currently I have access to Capital IQ and most of the BB resources. Potentially can get access to any other database.
So, could anybody advise me on what and where I should look for, please?
Would really appreciate any help! Thank you in advance!

Thank you! That's very helpful :))
Google Ibis World Industry Reports.
You're welcome :)
IBIS are mediocre at best. They advantage is that your school likely subscribes to them.
If you can find Freedonia, Marketline, Gartner (tech-related), go with those.
Financial Services Industry?
s&p industry survey if you can get access

Does anyone know of a site where I can get free industry reports? Somewhere that I could search by SIC or NAICS code, or something along those lines?
I'm sure many of you can access these through your bank's research department, but I don't have that option.
Thanks.
Mintel/Datamonitor are great resources if you have access to a library, even a university library.
The bank I work at doesn't have a research department (boutique M&A advisory shop), but we subscribe to IBISWorld for Industry reports. Is that what you're talking about?
It isn't free, but maybe they have discounts for students or maybe your school has a subscription (I'm assuming you're a student).

Usually use CapIQ to find M&A comps, what industry equity reports usually have a great deal of m&a transactions as well? Thanks
MergerMarket is ok..

Best Resource for Industry Research (Originally Posted: 02/24/2016)
Hi everyone,
I am looking for studying specific industries, their Supply chains, market segments etc on my own. Sometime back I had read somewhere that there are guides/ reports from a respected financial services/ publication firm detailing about industry structure and players. Somehow I can't find that resource any more. Can anyone point me to that suitable industry research resource?
I think the article mentioned something financial services/ publication firm like S&P/Moody's/Barron's, but I could be completely wrong here
google
bump
If you have access to Thomson a lot of firms will publish industry primers/updates from time to time.
thanks NuclearPenguins for pointing in the right direction

Hey guys, Was wondering if anyone had suggestions on sites where I could go to find broad industry reports. I'm just looking to familiarize myself in a few areas. I can think of exactly where I would look if I had access to a terminal or something... but I don't. So I'm hoping the interwebs has the answer. Thanks!
Uhm google it? Ex. Banking Sector Research Report or something similar to that.

Can anyone recommend a couple of good research companies that provide solid synopsis of specific industries?
So far I've used FirstReaserch and IBISWorld, but both are lacking in the depth I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance
try Euromonitor. They usually go pretty detailed into their industry analysis.
There are "premium" research houses that are specific to certain sectors - for example, in energy, there is Douglas Westwood and Wood Mackenzie (note that their reports are quite expensive - c. US$2,500 and above).
I would also try and find out who the respective industry bodies are that are associated with the sector you are looking at - they often develop fairly comprehensive coverage of their specific segment.

Anyone have any idea where I can obtain industry research? I am mainly looking for multiples data. Preferable a free and online source. Thanks
Yahoo! is where you can get multiples.
Build out your comp group (i.e. a few companies) and look at the EBITDA and P/E Multiples... I don't know if they have forward numbers...
Yahoo is probably the best free, online source. If you type in a ticker symbol, check the left side of the screen for 'Industry' listed under 'Company' in BOLD. You can find competitors there.
While I would never use it for work, I agree that Yahoo! is a great (free) resource for top-level analysis, stock screens, etc. They get a lot of their info from other 3rd party research sources (Capital IQ, Thomson, etc.) that's basically reliable...if somewhat out of date at times.
