I think of this in terms of check size sweet spot. This is how I think about transactions:
MM: $200-$500m
UMM: $400-$1B with upside for the right thing
Large cap: $800-LSD $B
Now “megafund” is kind of a nebulous term in this time in PE market, to me it means large multi-strategy investment firm. If you are trying to place a firm’s (any firm’s) buyout practice on a MM/UMM/Large Cap scale I would look at their mix of check sizes. Everyone does a mix but you can see the sweet spots which are driven by different reasons.
