Networking summer before college

Incoming freshman at what is likely gonna be Washington and Lee. Is networking the summer before going to college weird? I want to start building relationships now so it doesn't just look like I am talking to someone so they can push my resume when recruiting season comes. Would you think this was weird if someone did this to you?

Based on the insights from Wall Street Oasis, starting your networking efforts early, even before college begins, is not weird but rather proactive. Many successful individuals in finance start building their networks early. The key is to approach networking with a genuine interest in learning and building long-term relationships, not just with the immediate goal of advancing your career.

Here are a few tips for effective early networking: 1. Focus on Learning: Express your genuine curiosity about the industry. Ask insightful questions that show you're interested in understanding what professionals do, the challenges they face, and the skills that are most valuable in their field. 2. Be Respectful of Time: Remember that professionals are busy. Be concise in your communications and flexible with their schedules. 3. Provide Value: Even as a student, think about ways you can provide value. Share interesting articles or news relevant to their field, or perhaps offer insights from your studies once you begin your courses. 4. Follow Up: After initial contact, keep in touch by updating them on your academic progress or discussing recent industry developments. This helps in keeping the relationship alive and not just coming off as transactional during recruiting seasons.

Starting early can set you apart and demonstrate your dedication and foresight, qualities highly valued in the finance industry.
