Warm Pre-Interview Calls

Going thru the summer intern search process. Over the last few days (before firms publish if you get an interview or not), I have been contacted by a few banks for a quick 10-minute tell me about yourself, background, why banking phone call. Is there anything they are trying to figure out except if I am a complete moron?

I got one of those phone calls. They just asked me why I chose the school I did. I said because of a new president who did some great things over at the University of Wisconsin Madison and many believe she can take my school to the next level in rankings and selectivity.

She also asked why banking and I said I have always been interested in the profession. I asked if I should be prepared for technical questions and she said no, due to only being a sophomore they don't expect me to know the technical side without having taken accounting, finance, etc... which is an appropriate expectation.

I think if you get these phone calls, you will get an interview.

you're a moron. what a horrible answer for why this school- and no, getting the call doesnt mean you have an interview as you will soon find out.

well also given the location of the school being right next to a major city and having easy access to various banks and industries (JPM included) makes for great professional opportunities.

I already got the call for the interview. All of you who thought it was a terrible answer, didn't get a chance to hear the entire story.

yet another stupid answer. Madison, WI....how exciting. You must be interviewing with a tier 6 or 7 bank
