Now be honest. Were you being a whiny little f****t about something or did he just say it out of the blue with no context?

She called me it after I told her i wasn't comfortable with her use of the "R word" at the office

We have our answer. And it turns out it was in fact a she, not a he that perpetrated this grievous offense.

My question to the rest of you - Did OP deserve it?

Both parties in this instance sound pretty retarded then. And if you're the type to try and tell a superior to their face that you're not comfortable with how they're talking, then you kind of get what you get tbh.

If you're trolling, this is one of the best I've seen in a long time.

"The obedient always think of themselves as virtuous rather than cowardly" - Robert A. Wilson | "If you don't have any enemies in life you have never stood up for anything" - Winston Churchill | "It's a testament to the sheer belligerence of the profession that people would rather argue about the 'risk-adjusted returns' of using inferior tooth cleaning methods." - kellycriterion

Depends. How small is this boutique? Is this just one instance or has it happened multiple times? You're a new hire and depending on the culture and context, this could just as easily be seen as you being a thin-skinned child that will run to HR at the drop of a hat as something the VP might get disciplined for. You've got an MBA so you're at least mid-20s. People say mean things. Get over it, this is the real world not a classroom. If it becomes a pattern of behavior that you've got multiple instances of to reference then you've got an actual case, but if someone saying one off-color remark is enough to break your spirit then boy are you going to have a bad time in banking.

If she's gotten past saying the N word and isn't black, then there is no way some new blood associate is going to rock her boat. She more than likely has got her high heels firmly planted on throat of someone in HR or someone senior with pull, and you're just going to get yourself tossed out on your ass if you try to take her on. Women who make it to senior positions in IB/PE tend to be more aggressive characters than most of the men in my limited experience.

All you should definitely

Get this on record since it’s unacceptable to

Idk sounds like girlboss material to me, putting some whiny associate in their place.

Controversial

Absolutely the wrong place to ask advice about this lol. Half of the comments are from insensitive goons who will tell you to "kick rocks" but will spend an hour writing a paragraph of why "diversity" is bad instead of working.

They make it sound like it’s because they think diversity recruiting is unfair, but it’s actually because they don’t want to be around n******, f******, bitches and insert slur for mexicans, native americans etc.

Yeah I mean, I think it would've been better if you put those in quotation marks bcos I had to do a double take lol

I mean.....OP is kind of a regarded bundle of sticks. Have to agree with the VP on this one - drink a glass of Quickcrete and harden the fuck up...

What a whiny Gen Z comment. Develop a thick skin, crying to mommy isn’t endearing after you turn 10

Well, this maybe isn't trolling then. Still funny af.

Consensus seems like both the VP and OP aren’t really morally superior…

1) OP - good that you told her what you’re comfortable with and what you’re not comfortable with. But there probably was an issue with how you said it - were you whining or were you firm and factual? Big difference btw “omg don’t say that word that’s bad” vs “Hey I know you don’t mean it that way but some people (including me) might find it disrespectful”

2) Your VP sounds like she’s not in a good place mental health wise or she really despised the whole woke culture stuff, which is understandable. But there’s a clear difference btw fighting against what’s a clearly twisted and oppressing culture vs. just being spiteful.

Honestly this is great for you report them and hint to how you might go public they’ll instantly fire the VP and probably try and bribe you with a raise or promotion cause they don’t want you to sue

Imagine genuinely believing anyone in the general public is going to give a fuck about some MBA associate getting dunked on by a woman VP at their boutique bank.
