Is it possible to get a summer analyst position in Europe, UK or Asia if I don't have the appropriate visa or residency to work there?
I'm a US citizen. Is it possible to get a summer analyst position in Europe, UK or Asia if I don't already have the appropriate visa or residency to work there? Or do companies only sponsor full timers or people that are transferring between offices.
Can you work in a country without a visa? No.
Whether or not you can get that visa as an outsider depends on the country. For example, in the US, the answer is no.
In the UK, the answer is yes, depending on the company.
And in europe, I'm not sure. Probably depends where you're coming from.
i should have asked more clearly. i regret not doing so. will a company sponsor an intern to work in their country if they don't have existing required visas/residency?
Ppl can get TN or H1B in the USA mate as internationals, better so if they have an stem degree, otherwise the employer needs to demonstrate that there was no American to fill the role with desired qualifications
i'm a us citizen. do you know if company's in UK, EU, Asia are willing to hire and then sponsor summer interns?
Yes you do see US citizens doing UK internships. Not sure about Europe or Asia. These Americans though are normally like HYP and like 1-2 per intern class at a large US BB.
So I wouldn't say it's super common.
how do you think that this happens? is it because of perhaps a family friend or something and they're like citizens or are from that country?
Well for example, in the UK, banks already sponsor a bunch of Europeans to be interns in London. It's pretty much exactly the same process for an American, visa-wise. So makes sense that people from the top American schools get looks because there probably are limited "slots" for American
Based on the most helpful WSO content, securing a summer analyst position in Europe, the UK, or Asia as a US citizen without the appropriate visa or residency can be challenging. Typically, companies are more inclined to sponsor visas for full-time positions rather than for internships or summer analyst roles due to the short-term nature of these positions and the complexities and costs associated with visa sponsorship.
However, there are exceptions, and some firms may be willing to sponsor a visa for a highly qualified candidate. It's also worth noting that in some cases, multinational firms might facilitate internships by transferring individuals between offices, but this is usually more common for employees rather than interns.
To increase your chances, you might want to: - Focus on large multinational banks or financial institutions with a significant presence in your target location, as they are more likely to have the resources and experience in dealing with visa sponsorships. - Look into specific visa schemes or work holiday visas that some countries offer, which might allow you to undertake an internship without requiring the employer to sponsor you. - Network extensively and reach out to alumni or professionals within your target firms to understand their process better and potentially find a sponsor within the company.
Remember, each country has its own set of immigration laws and policies, which can change, so it's crucial to research and stay updated on the latest information regarding work visas and internships for international candidates in your target country.
