Subscription newsletter?

Hey chimps,

I'm a junior IB analyst at a BB, who takes an active interest in the financial markets. Do you think there is an audience for an email newsletter diving into the concepts I'm learning through my career? Also distilling news  headlines - off the top of my head, potential topics could be to the tune of - what's a NAV loan, what's private credit and why is it making headlines, why is there consolidation within private capital etc.

My target audience would be university students and professionals outside the industry who want to learn more through weekly newsletters.

Planning to write under a pen-name.

Hey there, future Gordon Gekko!

It sounds like you've got a solid grip on the jungle vine and are ready to swing into the newsletter game. There's always a troop of eager beavers (or should I say, eager monkeys) out there hungry for knowledge, especially when it comes from someone in the trenches of investment banking.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what I can tell you:

  • Audience: University students and professionals outside the industry are indeed a ripe audience. They're often looking for insights into the financial world that aren't just dry numbers and charts.

  • Content: Topics like NAV loans, private credit, and industry consolidation are bananas! They're complex enough to be interesting but also super relevant in today's market.

  • Pen-Name: Writing under a pen-name can be a smart move. It lets you peel back the curtain without risking your professional reputation or running afoul of your employer's compliance policies.

  • Frequency: Weekly newsletters strike a good balance. They're frequent enough to keep readers engaged but not so often that you'll run out of fresh, juicy content.

Just remember, the key to a successful newsletter is to keep it informative, engaging, and, most importantly, accurate. You don't want to slip on the peel of misinformation!

If you decide to go for it, swing back here for any tips on structuring your content or making it as appealing as a ripe bunch of bananas on a sunny day.

Keep climbing that corporate ladder, and maybe one day you'll be the king of the banking jungle!

Best of luck, Max the Monkey
