Proprietary research roles at HFs - what do you think?

What do you think of working on the prop research team at a HF? Equity long / short ~3B in assets.

It seems like it could be really interesting but also quite demanding in the sense that you are constantly fielding research requests from the PMs.

Any thoughts on this role / path?

Few things:

1. You have to be a believer that alpha lies in informational edge (not everyone does)

2. You should ask other HFers here whether there is a path from prop research team to fundamental research team, because otherwise you will be stuck in a specialist role with no pathway to becoming the PM (if that's what you aspire to) - in the prop role, you will be doing a lot of data analysis and stuff, but yon won't get to touch financial statement, that's the concern
