Ease of Going from Europe back to US in L/S

Completely hypothetical for me, but I would love to live in Europe for a bit for some personal reasons (both family and just personal development--feel like it's cool to experience living in another country). How common is it in L/S to be able to get a job in Europe, as well as how hard would it be to make the move back to the US? Have you all in industry seen this, or not really? Obviously it's not conventional by any means, moreso asking about the friction (in terms of comp/progression) in doing something like this.

Given that for the most part European markets are covered from Europe and US from US, you would be investing time and effort to get to know a market, only to leave that expertise behind and show up in the US looking for a job with little or no knowledge of US markets.

Yes, there are exceptions like US based funds that trade Europe, but it's hard enough as it is getting a job in the industry to make it this extra hard on yourself.

Then of course, why the need to return to the US? Maybe you find a Euro girl and stay there for good. These 10-year life plans often don't pan out they way one anticipated.
