head of group recently left. setting up his own outfit. was never the main show for them vs L/S, x-over, and likely never will be (cant opine on if thats why fmr exited -- seems pretty young / successful so maybe just more upside running his own shop). see viking also having slow go with their credit/structured equity sleeve

 

This strategy is a moment in time strat. It reflects the precarious financial position of many startups after the excesses of Covid, and is basically a way for startups to pretend they aren’t doing a down round and for coatue to keep their private marks. Doubt it has longevity. It will never be in the dna of coatue to do this kind of stuff. Unless the fund is incredibly successful it will probably be a one off

In general on coatue do not join unless it is your only good option and you have very thick skin. Horrible culture.
