Base Salary Expectations
Received a verbal notification I would be getting an offer.
NYC, 500mm SM - Multi-strat fund, my background is 1 year of IB M&A.
What should I expect/negotiate for base?
My base currently is 125k should I ask for that?
Thanks
Would expect $125k to $150k.
Bump
I’m fairly sure they don’t pay in cocaine, sorry.
I think 125-150 is the norm. I have 8 YE and my base is 175, probably underpaid there but base doesn't matter anyway.
Yea. Your base is much lower than average. I know people who have gotten bumped to $200k after 1.5 years. If your bonus is good enough then the salary doesn’t matter.
That's interesting, never bothered to bring it up to my PM. Realistically what can I expect? Don't want to look cheap / waste his time if the difference isn't big enough.
How many YE on the public markets side? I know of bases that have moved up to 250-300.
dont want to waste his time? how beta has this industry gotten? if you are underpaid, that is more money in your pocket and more money for your family and you are afraid to ask for it? that's insane. If it's 25k or 100k why would you just sweep that under the rug? what a stupid mindset to have
