Private credit team of insurance company

Does anyone have any information or thoughts about joining a private credit team of an insurance company?

I'm joining as a private credit analyst for a large UK life insurer. In our mandate, we invest around 7 billion pounds (pension money) each year into alternative credit like Infra, RE, Direct lending, structured finance, etc. Does this build transferable skills to recruit for credit funds?

I appreciate any information shared on this topic. Thank you

If you are still early in your career (1-2 years out of undergrad) and don't have the skillset to directly join a Credit shop then this *could* be a good opportunity to get foot in the door. What will determine your successful exit is the insurance co. investing style? Do they lead deals, go direct, co-invest? What is their diligence process like? How similar/different is this to reputable credit shops? Prior exits might also give you some idea although their is a bit of a self selection there

I finished my MSc Finance last month and joining the office next month. I did an internship in a distressed credit HF earlier in Feb.

We have an in-house AM team who sources the deals. They do a mix of deals with large ticket sizes (500m - 1Bn+). I'll learn more after joining. My team's job is to do a commercial credit analysis and present it to the investment committee.

We invest the defined benefit money so our goal is to match the cashflows with the pension liabilities. We are long only investors.
