Exit opportunities after MBB for physicians- healthcare and finance

I'm a physician (MD) turned consultant at MBB (US). Really enjoying the work so far (healthcare exclusively so far), but starting to think about exit opportunities (3-5 years down the road). 


1) What are some common exit opportunities for associates/managers at MBB in the healthcare sector? (including salary, hours etc)

2) In addition to healthcare which would be the most straightforward path for me, I have a keen interest in finance, though no prior training (life science undergrad --> med school --> residency --> attending, no MBA), nor work experience in finance. As you can imagine, I am also older (mid thirties). Are there any realistic opportunities to go into the high finance world after MBB given my background (provided I start working on finance cases over the next 3 or so years)? 

3) Would studying for the CFA during my time at MBB help (though I won't be able to actually get the CFA designation since I won't meet the work requirement)? Can't take time off work and do an MBA as I have disgusting med school loans to pay off. 

4) Are there any good careers that would be at the interface of healthcare and finance?


I'm trying to plan my exit opps and if it sounds like finance would be do-able and better than healthcare, I want to start "re-branding" myself. 

If not, then I guess I would just stick to healthcare given my clinical background.

If you go on LinkedIn, people with your background are highly sought after in healthcare investing firms, both public and private side. It would probably be best to target roles where your ability to understand the science can give you an edge e.g. biotech. 

 

From my little experience, you have many choices. By working for a private equity firm or investment bank in its healthcare division to the Strategy/corporate finance division of a Pharmaceutical Company. Furthermore, venture capital is an interesting sector, especially by investing in biotech/ pharma startups! But networking is the key here. Since you can't pursue an MBA atm, try to connect with MBB alumni from the companies you are interested. 

Having studied Pharmaceutical Sciences and just secured an internship in MBB.
