Transition from Boutique to Tier 1 AM

I just started as a junior PM at an AM Boutique (mutual fund with ~5bn AuM). I am quite happy where I am at right now, but I was wondering about the chances of making the transition to a BB AM (Blackrock, Fidelity etc) in about 2 years from now and whether thats even possible coming from a smaller shop.

I am learning a lot currently, but working at a larger AM comes with other benefits.

So do they even hire people for investment roles from smaller shops?

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
