First, online application qas required and completion of a quick logic and skills test with the former being lots of pattern-type questions and the latter just some basic graph-interpretation questions (considered analytical).

The first round consisted of a short interview (30-45 mins) with one of the analysts, used more as a screening process to choose the top few candidates for the next round. This included the typical behavioral type questions and a few technical questions (valuation questions, DCF, etc.). Lots of current events/market news type questions were asked to check understanding of the markets and interest in the position. Specifically: listed USA/Europe/Asia on his notes and asked me to elaborate on various issues going on in each at the time.

The 2nd round involved meeting with various members of the team, 1 or 2 at a time (1 analyst and current intern, 2 associates, Managing director). These interviews were short 15-20 mins and were again a mix between behavioral and technical questions. One of the job duties was creating UBS' Spain and Portugal equity report each morning to be sent to UBS Europe equities groups. They speciifcally tested my ability to do this adequately by bringing in a newspaper and asking me to skim through it to draw on things I would include if this were the report.
