Investment Banking Analyst

Typical on-campus interview with follow-up call two days later to offer Superday following week. Flew down to Atlanta on Friday afternoon, given tour of trading desk and speech from head of Securitization. Drinks at restaurant across the street and then driven to reception/dinner at area in Buckhead. Paired up with mix of Analysts and Associates at dinner. Walked to bar after dinner with analysts. Definitely know "why Suntrust", get the feeling that they offer a lot and get turned down by kids. First weekend seemed to be high targets for Suntrust: UVA, Wake, UF, UNC, and Vanderbilt. Second weekend was more SEC-style schools like UGA, Clemson, etc. They hype up Atlanta a lot. Most people were very laidback. Everyone bragged a lot about growth of Suntrust during recession, and emphasize their LevFin/DCM growth, associates talked about management's "commitment" to growing investment banking (Beau Cummins and Bill Roberts are "IB guys").

Superday was 7 30-minute interviews, only one of mine had four or five technical questions. Good mix of VPs, Associates, Directors, and MDs in interview pool. My superday had 41 people interview and was split up into 6-7 groups of 5-6 people, word from analysts was that 2 people are typically offered from each group. No one really trying to grill you, just kind of picking at your resume and talking about yourself. Each person has a specific set of behavioral questions they are supposed to ask, more senior people wanted to touch on resume more and would skip questions. Offers were given on Monday afternoon by phone and rejections by Thursday by email.
