Analyst Intern

After submitting my resume and cover letter via the campus recruiting website, I had to take a math test specific to Oliver Wyman. The test is very difficult and you are not expected to complete all of the questions. You should still be well prepared for this test. Only about 30 people who pass the test are invited for first round interviews. The first round interview consists of 2 separate 20 min interviews conducted by Analyst~Associate level consultants. You spend the entire 30 mins purely solving cases. The number of people who make it to final rounds vary by campus, and there were approximately 20 candidates interviewing in the Boston office. Oliver Wyman invites all candidates to Boston the day before the interview to have dinner with the full-timers, which is a great opportunity to learn about the firm. The final round interview consists of 4 separate 45 min interviews, 3 of witch are case interviews and 1 that is a resume-based interview. You get to interview with senior level consultants ranging from Partner and Directors to Associate Consultants. Oliver Wyman notifies each candidate of the results in the same day the interviews are conducted.
The people are extremely nice and helpful, even compared to consultants in other firms. Besides the frequent traveling, consultants generally loved working form the firm.
A word of advice: do not be intimidated by the other candidates. You are evaluated solely based on your own performance. While the firm can't hire every candidate, it is most likely that they will hire you if you meet their standards. Make sure that you are well prepared and confident in terms of solving cases. Also, the firm loves people with superior quantitative skills. If you are and engineer or math major wanting to be a consultant, Oliver Wyman is probably a great match for you.
