Sales intern

Basically, a financial advisor from Northwestern Mutual visited two of my classes because I had the same teacher who was her friend. She gave a presentation about the company and pitched salary numbers out there for years given to the company. I was more interested in the analytical side then selling the insurance. After class I talked with her and shared my interests, to which she said they might have some positions open on the analytical side. I then got her contact info and sent her my resume.

I received my first interview over skype with one of their campus recruiters. It was pretty easy, just asking questions about growing up and trying to get to know you. I quickly found out they had no intentions of using me as an analyst, but as a sales person. I said I would meet up with their local office close to me to speak with their recruiter there, which was set up about a week later.

I had no intentions of signing on, but thought I could use the interview experience. They basically gave me a run down of what I would be doing, which would consist of me calling all of my friends and family and trying to sell them insurance policies. The recruiter then showed me a cliche video made with past interns to try to motivate me as well. He then asked if I would be interested in working as an intern over the summer, to which I asked if I could think about it. I assume most recruiters would give you the chance to make a decision, but this guy had to have an answer right then and there.

The only reason I can think of that they are still one of the top 10 internships on vault, is because they are one of the major sponsors. As long as you have clear communication skills, and can carry a conversation, you can get in.
