Please describe the interview / hiring process.
Started the process by having my dad put me in touch with an MD from their LA office. Simultaneously, I reached out to a old friend to introduce me to his fraternity brother that was a senior analyst in the Chicago Office. I also reached out to a VP who was an alumni of my College. Somewhere throughout that process, I was able to convince them to interview me. I had 3 different phone interviews with the alumni VP, an 2 different associates. After that, I was invited in for a super day the same week. I met with a VP, then the VP and associate I had previously talked to, then the Senoir analyst, then met with another VP, then finally, an associate and a VP. After a week, they asked me to come back in for an additional interview to primarily meet two more guys (a VP and an Associate). In this interview they asked me if I would accept an offer from Goldman (I was heading to a super day in their SF office later that week) if I was given one. I did not definitively say no. Later on, I found out from some friends that I was one of two frontrunners and they were ready to give me an offer if I had said that I would rather work at Moelis. Needless to say, I did not receive the offer. The interview was fairly easy overall, lots of technical questions and fit. Took a lot of hustle to get in the door from a non-target, but other than that the process was very smooth. I really liked everyone that I met and probably would have enjoyed the experience. All seemed really smart, but laid back enough to joke around.
