M&A Intern
General Interview Information
Interview Details
On the day, it all started with a chat with the same HR woman; very interesting person, passionated on proving me that English was not her first language. She seemed very overwhelmed by the culture and after and exchange of few tame sentences she pulled out the finance hat and performed a very poor attempt at teaching me "the fairness opinion".
Finally, she took her coffee and left and I moved on to the technical interview. Panting through the door came this very stressed guy, short, wearing a tie his mother bought him when he was 5. He really seemed antisocial and he rather be sitting at his desk in front of an inanimate pc than interacting with a fellow human. To be honest he probably had to walk a long way to get to the meeting room and that can be quite demanding when you are 30 and have the physical abilities of an elderly lady. All in all, he seems to be a fan of Plato and started questioning me with rhetorics on the choices I have not made in my career. Impressed by his dialectic, I continue with my story, until the moment he handed me a piece of paper and we started with the technical interview.
I am trying my best to dwell between his accounting questions, until I can't help but notice that his negativity and lack of empathy bring me back to Plato and I start asking myself "what da hell am I doing in front of this potato sack". In all fairness, I might not have been the ACA guy he wanted to hear but, he really had no idea what he was talking about either. To brighten up my day, awkwardness grew to the point of no return when he plummeted to the yes, ah ah, nod stage. At this point the male banker had reached the pinnacle of his keyboard abstinence and was having major withdrawal symptoms right in front of me. I couldn't be too upset at his polite request to get out of his office.
