Investment Banking Summer Analyst
General Interview Information
Interview Details
When I came back from my gap year in the army to start my penultimate year, I knew I was going to have last round interviews for GS' SI, but I was having to wait for these for a month after moving back to London so I figured I'd get a security offer. I contacted the guy who interviewed me for the Spring Week on Thursday, was invited to an assessment center on Friday. The assessment center was the next Monday and I had my offer on Tuesday.
At the assessment center I had 2 1-on-1's, a role play where I had to assume the role of a senior banker and give advice to a "client". Moreover, we had a group task where we were given different lines of action we had to defend. Finally, there was an hour long networking lunch where about 10 juniors from the bank came to have a chat with us. + we had to take a numerical
What got me through was my personality. I did well on the few technical questions I was given and did very well on the numerical I had to take, but I really hit it with one of the two 1-on-1 guys and the analyst that was doing the role play with me. Both knew the Finnish guy who got me the interview in the first place and we just chatted about mutual acquaintances for a good ten minutes. The 1-on-1 interview started with the interviewer asking me what I wanted to talk about, because he saw from my CV that I had a genuine interest and the capabilities to handle the job (I had done 2 M&A internships before).
