Commodity Operations Analyst
General Interview Information
Interview Details
The role was described to be as partly consisting of trade reconciliations in the commodities group, as well as operational tasks dealing with HSBC's vault and physical orders.
The senior VP described the position and asked me why I thought I would be a fit. I drew on my previous internships and college problem-solving experiences to illustrate similarities between operations tasks and what I had done in the past. They mentioned that they were looking for me to stay at least a year and if I left earlier, they would look down on this and not recommend me in the future should I decide to move internally within the company.
The two VP's and my contact asked similar questions about my background in a laid back fashion and gave me the opportunity to ask any questions I had about the group. They told me that they would be in touch and not to get discouraged if I did not hear back for a few weeks.
After not hearing anything for around 3 weeks, I emailed my contact who informed me that they offered the position to someone else. Overall, despite not getting an offer, the interview was a nice experience that was not too stressful. I would have liked more direction about how I would hear whether I received the position, but realize that many companies don't grant you this courtesy.
