IBD - Data Resource Group Analyst

I was very fortunate to get a call after filling out an application online.The position, while nestled in IBD, was a back office positon in Salt Lake City - to respond to banker requests by pulling up data from databases and arranging it for pitchbooks. However, because the job was listed under IBD, a lot of people assumed they'd be working as investment banking analysts. I had three phone interviews that were fairly straightforward, but each asked whether I understand that I will NOT be working as an IDB Analyst. When I hinted that my long-term goal was M&A, they were sure to point out that this job was NOT a feeder into their IB groups. Other than that, the interviews were pleasant; very few finance-focused questions. Only one interviewer asked me basic finance: what is the enterprise value? What are the P/E, D/E ratios? I was brought out for a second-round in NYC for a 1-on-1. The interviewer was very pleasant and the interview was entirely fit. A lot of "why Goldman," resume questions, teamwork questions, and "where do you see yourself in 3 years?" questions.
