Please describe the interview / hiring process.
In the London office, there are spring insight programs you apply as a 1st year of 3 year course (2nd on 4 year) and I applied to this online. I completed a online numerical test and in-tray exercise before getting an offer for this. No interview to get to here.

After the spring program, I think everyone who attended were invited to interview. You got to choose which line of service to apply to (Audit, Tax, Corporate Finance, Consulting), I chose consulting which was the most popular.

After I was given the date of the interview, I went down to London. Whilst for the other lines, the interview just involved a competency interview based on Deloitte's competencies, Consulting involved an extra case study and group exercise.

The group exercise was the first stage, myself and 4 others were each given a hypothetical city and information about them such as infrastructure, population, crime etc and we were tasked with deciding which city would be the best to host a sports tournament (like the olympics). After a 20 minute discussion we came to a conclusion as to which city would be the best. It wasn't necessary to "win" as they were looking for your ability to look at things from various angles and listen to what others had to say. The group exercise was watched by 3 interviewers.

After the group exercise, I was interviewed by a senior manager for the competency interview and case study. Case study came first, I was given a handout outlining the case and a few minutes to read through and make notes. I was then asked about the case (It was about whether or not a government agency should combine multiple admin offices into one major centralised one to increase efficiency) and half-way through, given additional information to consider. Approximately lasted 30 or so minutes I think.

The competency interview was quite comfortable since I prepared quite a lot. The competencies are all online and it was just a matter of doing some simple research. Questions usually involved something like this: "Tell me of a time you [demonstrated certain competency e.g. gave a presentation, achieved a goal, had to deal with conflict etc]. Some commercial awareness questions but not particularly difficult. This lasted just over an hour as most competencies required 2 examples.

Whole process lasted just over a couple of hours. Was informed by phone call the next day that I was made an offer for summer consulting internship!
