Financial Translator

Interviewed at Tokyo office for Japanese-to-English financial/securities translator position. Main part of the interview was a one-hour timed translation test, in which a Bloomberg news report had to be put into English, from a Japanese original, using any online or offline tool I felt would be effective. (I consulted several online dictionaries to double-check certain words.) The interviewer claimed to have prepared the test with the expectation that the testee would not be able to finish in one hour; I finished in 48 minutes and did not make any mistakes of note. (I had been translating financial reports at another job for nine years. The only difference here was the company's desire for speed.)
