Data Analyst - Onboarding
General Interview Information
Interview Details
It started as a group interview with 2 interviewers - probably 5 years experience and a fresh college grad - and 2 other interviewees. We talked about data validation for a while, then we were given about an hour to go through some economic data series on a laptop and fix the data.
Next, I remember breaking up to meet with what I assume were 2 HR members. One was very pretentious and condescending, the other was forgettable. It was a very strange discussion, going from Ray Dalio's Principles to EMH. I can't remember the specifics well, but I did get basic interview questions - "tell me a time you struggled with something, and how did you respond." They didn't seem to have much to say on anything, and I wasn't prepared at the time to be as assertive (bordering on combatitve) as they like. Be prepared to challenge statements and back your own.
Next, I met with the interviewers from the group discussion. I actually come from a FO position, so I was using this interview to see if I could parlay a research interview. The actual data validation process was pretty easy, even for someone with no experience in it. I tried to do something much more complicated than they were looking for, but they didn't seem to recognize that even when I explained it to them.
I realize now that I should have been much more direct with every conversation I had. Bridgewater is not a place for subtlety.
