Please describe the interview / hiring process.
My experience wasn't normal, by a long shot. I reached out to an individual at Barclays via cold emailing attempting to set up an informational interview. He said he didn't really have time to talk but that there was a junior position open on their team and asked if I'd be interested in applying. I said sure so he sent me the position details and told me where and how to apply. Turns out he was part of a team that had just been poached from another reputable firm and they needed to fill this position sooner rather than later. Turns out they had been at barclays for a few months and had interviewed a fair number of people and hadn't found someone that 'clicked'. The initial interview was your typical NYC based recruiter at HQ more or less screening you. Second interview was on the phone with the guy I initially reached out to for an info interview. We set up an in person interview with him and the VP on the team at a nearby Starbucks three days after the phone interview. Three days after that I had another Starbucks interview with two of the three directors of the team, one being an alumni of my university. A week later I'm finally in the office to meet with the last director and the MD of the Houston branch. I thanked everyone after all was said and done. Waited around for two weeks before I got the unfortunate call saying they decided to go with the other candidate. It was down to her and me and she looked better on paper, safer bet and fair enough. Proud to say I beat out a more qualified resumes and a few target MBAs simply because I was truly interested in wealth management and was passionate about it. Not looking to lateral to IB or stay a year and go for my MBA.
