Thoughts on Wealth Management Prestige and Exit Opps

Hey all-

I was wondering what people thought of wealth management as a career and in terms of exit opps? Of course the BB have wealth management but also what people think about independent 10 billion AUM shops with advisors in barons 100. I was thinking this because I met someone who turned down Goldman to work at a prestigious independent wealth management firm (working with 25 mill clients on average)- why would someone do this. His job sounds enjoyable- yes, but I feel like I hardly hear of people then making the transition to PE or HF... How prestigious is it really.
