Small PWM internship or summer school?

Hey guys, I will be transferring to a top west coast university as a junior this fall and during the summer I have the opportunity for an internship at a small PWM firm. Do you think a sophomore internship is really all that useful, or would I be better off just taking a summer class?

I wanted to do an internship because I've heard sometimes people look down on transfer students, even from top universities.

Any input would be very helpful. Thank you for your time.

Why not both?

If you just need general credits, take some online classes at a community college while you are at the internship. It will be much cheaper and easier too.

Since I want to go into trading (especially quant trading), my logic was to take summer classes that would give me a huge headstart on coding, while I do side stuff including lecturing and writing papers for a sizable chunk of cash (more than any internship would have offered me). Then I would trade this over the summer and during the third year of my college, with the idea that I would have all of the coding under my belt (since I would be doing supplementary self-training) with a trading track record that I could monitor better in the summer than I could with an internship.

At the risk of a blind man leading the blind, take my advice with a grain of salt; my fingers are crossed too and I myself am only a sophomore. It would be interesting to see if any professional would be willing to address my issue because I think it offers the point that it's not CLEARLY internship >>>>>> alternate summer spent well.

Could you give us more info? Because if it was, say, IBD, chances are you really should just take the internship, at least according to all else I've read.
