Any good read/listening material you'd recommend for our industry?

I've worked across early and growth stage VC, was an operator at a venture and was part of a deep tech incubator for a few years, and I find that keeping in the loop is half the battle, and outside the obvious of chatting with founders/KOLs/events, are there any resources or materials you guys recommend that you find helps you stay current/give you an edge, or helps you with being a VC day-to-day?

Below is my list, the caveat is that I'm focused mainly on B2B enterprise SaaS and digital infrastructure in data/AI, cybersecurity, and devtools investing mainly in the US from Series A to C as context.

Reading:

  • Tomasz Tunguz's blog (tomtunguz.com), now doing his own thing but was a partner at Redpoint, has great usually more data-driven analysis, really love his writing
  • A16z's "blueprints" research, has some great materials on data infra and AI right now
  • Bessemer has a lot of great material on their site, occasionally I'll tap into their benchmarks data
  • The Information (theinformation.com), not sure if 100% always useful, but news selection tends to be pretty good
  • Carta's State of Private Markets reports, high level but sometimes good insights as they represent the majority of ventures
  • Occasionally will catch an article or two from other VCs as its shared on LinkedIn, for example Mark Suster from Upfront had a great article on the state of VC as it was careening off a cliff in 2022, I try to follow a few big names in the space on LinkedIn or through their blog

Listening:

  • WSJ The Journal podcast, really good time-efficient journalism
  • All-In podcast, absolute chaos with some spicy takes from Chamath, Jason and the two Davids, but honestly the best source of industry drama and uninformed hot takes on politics
  • 20VC podcast (new to me, so take with a grain of salt)
  • Lex Fridman Podcast, runs the gamut on topics, but really inspires some great ideas when he talks with really technical people

Other useful stuff

  • Tegus, didn't know about this until I joined the VC I'm at now, where has this been all my life. It's a database of interviews with key people at large tech companies, is not only an amazing first source to start diligence with, it's also a nice source of industry insights if you go hunting for them, makes for some nice reading sometimes
  • GenZ VCs Slack group, I'm an impostor, I'm actually a millennial, but still find it a good resource to connect with a few new people in the industry
  • Online Geniuses Slack group, really helped me when I was a head of marketing for a venture for a stint, and have found it to be a great community of sales/CSM/marketing people often giving really great advise on GTM
  • Startup Study Group Slack group, can be a bit spammy but was able to meet some interesting people
  • LocalLLaMA reddit group for the latest in LLMs
  • Two Minute Papers Youtube channel, for more mind-bending AI stuff
  • I don't really use Twitter too much, but Andrej Karpathy shares some great stuff

Cheers,

P.S. If you're currently working at a VC, feel free to DM me, would be great to connect and chat.
