Back Channeling when Thinking of Taking a Role

Hey guys,

Random question from a somewhat awkward guy, if you are in the latter stages of a process and you want to do some back channeling on the firm, group etc. Do you just message folks on LinkedIn that don't work there anymore? HH's will always say its the best place on earth, obv the partners will sell you the world. But if you want some real deal info

Just wanted to get folks thoughts.

I think it's a phenomenal idea, and a borderline no-brainer especially for a more career-track position (i.e., 2 and out positions maybe less so, but still could be helpful). Multiple people have cold-DM'd me about my former employer, which I've done calls with them about. If I were to ever look for a new role I would 100% make this a part of my evaluation

I think something simple like:

xyz - nice to meet you over LinkedIn. I saw that you spent some time at abc firm and wanted to reach out as I am currently interviewing for a role with them. I enjoyed meeting the team but wanted to see if you had any thoughts to share on your experience and perspectives on the firm's culture. For what it's worth, ABC does not know I am reaching out and any insight you have would stay between us.
